Gravitee alternatives for AI apps: API access, billing and inference margin

Compare Gravitee alternatives by consumer plans, token-policy scope, actual financial handoff and approved app margin with ShareAI.

View as Markdown

Choose Gravitee alternatives by the API, event, model-access or payment responsibility your application needs to change. Compare Tyk, WSO2, Kong and Moesif for selected API-commercialization requirements. Evaluate ShareAI when an existing app wants eligible inference paid through an approved Builder arrangement, with an allowed app surcharge and attributed earnings. These paths do not automatically replace the same platform components.

Reviewed 23 October 2026. ShareAI publishes this comparison and operates one program discussed. Product facts rely on current official references and actual source screenshots. The executed code is an offline synthetic ledger. No production gateway deployment, subscription change, token-limit test, customer payment or performance benchmark was performed.

Current Gravitee references cover APIs, events and AI traffic, with Gravitee Gamma documentation alongside classic consoles. A comparison that assumes it cannot govern model traffic or provide consumer plans misses current scope. Identify the actual installation, version, licensed features and financial integration before deciding which responsibility needs a replacement.

What current Gravitee already supports

The API monetization page describes consumer discovery, subscriptions, usage limits and consumption metrics handed to invoicing systems. The current API Management overview describes proxies, security plans and runtime policy. Reasons to keep it: evaluate those existing capabilities when they already fit the app’s published APIs and operational requirements.

Gravitee documentation describing LLM Proxy models, policies and security controls.
Actual official Gravitee documentation captured 23 October 2026 after its native Reject control. The page is not a deployed proxy, enforced policy or successful model request.

The LLM Proxy configuration guide describes model providers, guardrails, policies and cost attribution. Those records support understanding usage without becoming a received-money receipt. Compare the actual financial handoff, customer agreement and payer. A model-cost dashboard can be useful while the application still needs to establish its accepted customer price and collection workflow.

The installation overview distinguishes running all components in your own infrastructure from a hybrid arrangement with a managed control plane. Qualify the selected version, feature entitlement and operating responsibilities. An existing classic-console deployment and a newly documented product path should not be treated as automatically identical because they share a vendor name.

A logistics insights app combines data access and AI explanations

Consider a hypothetical logistics insights app with existing business customers. It exposes shipment-data APIs and event feeds, then generates an AI explanation of an exception. Several people at one customer share a subscription. Product wants to compare a permitted margin on eligible inference while retaining the separate price and access terms for its logistics data and useful application workflow.

A request count, event volume and model token total measure different things. A short status lookup can cost less than a long exception explanation, and a repeated event can be delivered without representing another useful customer outcome. Define the original shipment exception and its accepted commercial treatment independently of how the selected gateway groups requests.

The difficult case is a shared subscription, a changed provider and a burst of explanations. A saved model configuration is not yet deployed, aliases differ across providers and one person exhausts an allowance shared by the team. The app needs to explain which route was active and why another user was denied. A correct invoice total after the fact does not prove runtime access or commercial attribution was correct.

Compare the responsibility each alternative can change

OptionEvaluate it forQualify separately
TykAPI products, developer access and payment integrationsSelected portal, deployed policy and collection path
WSO2API subscription policies and a configured billing engineVersion, plugin, lifecycle events and actual payment
KongGateway policy with managed metering and billingService compatibility, enforcement and financial integration
MoesifAPI usage analytics and monetization workflowsTrusted source events, selected billing connection and collection
ShareAI Builder ProgramApproved customer-paid inference with an app surchargeEligible routing, app attribution and settlement terms
A responsibility-based shortlist. API management, usage analytics and an approved inference payment arrangement are distinct implementation paths.

The logistics app can retain a working data API while evaluating another approved inference journey. That requires actual integration and a clear customer explanation. No automatically synchronized subscription, shared wallet or native connector among these products is implied. Assign ownership to each data-access right, measured unit, customer charge and correction.

Follow one shipment exception through access and payment

StageEvidence to retainLogistics-app question
Consumer accessTrusted customer, subscription and applicable rightWhich person or team may request this explanation?
ExecutionActive policy, actual provider and logical workWhat route and allowance governed the request?
ConsumptionAgreed unit and original usage observationsWhat did this exception consume?
Commercial handoffAccepted price, billing event and adjustmentWhat charge was recorded for the customer?
Collection and releaseActual receipt and applicable settlement stateWhat value was received and becomes available?
A hypothetical shared customer subscription with a model change. No production entitlement, invoice or payment was created.

Keep those observations linked without collapsing them into one status. A portal subscription can exist before a paid right becomes active. A saved policy can differ from the deployed policy. An allocated cost can remain uncollected. Support, product and finance should be able to explain the same shipment exception and its explicit correction.

Tyk: compare API products and the payment integration

The Tyk monetization page describes API products, tiered access and integrations with payment and analytics systems. Its Enterprise Developer Portal reference describes bundles, subscriptions and consumer usage visibility. Pros: compare that scope when the logistics app wants to evaluate how customers discover and gain access to its data products.

Tyk Enterprise Developer Portal page describing API products and subscriptions.
Actual official Tyk page captured 23 October 2026 after its native Deny All control. The illustrated portal is not a created subscription or paid logistics-data purchase.

Tradeoffs: the portal reference explicitly separates product access from direct payment handling and describes integration with a chosen payment solution. Qualify the selected portal, version, deployed access policy and financial connection. A bundle and an approved key do not establish that the customer paid or that every shared consumer receives the intended allowance.

For the logistics team, compare the data subscription, AI explanation and policy for exhausted access separately. Preserve the accepted terms through an upgrade and correction. A portal change should not silently turn team-level rights into per-person rights or imply that the app’s model-provider funding moved with its API catalog.

WSO2: compare subscription policy and billing lifecycle

The current AI subscription reference describes request and token-based quotas. Its monetization guide describes a Stripe implementation and extension to other billing engines. Pros: compare the selected API Manager version when the logistics app needs API rights and a configured commercial lifecycle considered together.

WSO2 documentation explaining API monetization and its Stripe implementation.
Actual official WSO2 documentation captured 23 October 2026 after its native Reject All control. No plugin, checkout, subscription or usage-publishing job was configured.

Tradeoffs: qualify actual plugin, deployment, trusted subscriber mapping and payment lifecycle. The quota guide distinguishes a configuration that stops requests from one that allows them beyond the quota. A paid-plan label is relevant to configured monetization, not a payment receipt. A plan and an analytics counter therefore need a qualified integration before customers depend on them.

For the shared team, preserve the intended request and token policies separately from the accepted charge. Rehearse payment failure and a corrected explanation. A gateway returning an answer does not establish that the intended commercial subscription remained active or that the selected billing engine accepted and collected the resulting usage.

Kong: compare policy enforcement with metering and billing

The Kong monetization page describes a broader gateway and commercialization path. Its current entitlement guide connects managed rate-card entitlements with separate gateway enforcement. Pros: compare the selected services when the logistics app wants runtime rights and usage monetization evaluated together.

Kong documentation describing metering and billing capabilities.
Actual official Kong documentation capture retained with source and checksum. No customer entitlement, gateway enforcement or received payment was measured.

Tradeoffs: qualify actual services, deployment compatibility, policy, source mapping and collection. A gateway on company infrastructure and a managed billing service have separate operating boundaries. Comparing an entire product family with one proxy installation does not establish that every hosted commercial capability comes with that gateway.

For the logistics exception, inspect the customer’s purchased right, actual runtime result and usage record together. Preserve the effective policy through a provider change and period boundary. A calculated balance and an enforcement component can both exist while the application still needs to prove continuous, explainable access and correct financial treatment.

Moesif: compare usage evidence and commercialization

The Moesif product page describes API analytics and monetization workflows. Pros: compare the actual selected integration when the logistics app needs usage understood by customer, application and commercial outcome. A request count alone does not explain whether a data consumer obtained a useful result or how a billing rule applies.

Moesif homepage describing its API analytics and monetization platform.
Actual official Moesif page capture retained with source and checksum. A product illustration is not a delivered shipment explanation, generated invoice or paid receipt.

Tradeoffs: qualify the source events, trusted identity, selected billing connection and actual collection. Analytics visibility does not by itself authorize a downstream price change. A financial record also needs the accepted customer terms and an explicit correction policy. Compare selected implementations rather than infer that every dashboard and billing engine shares one wallet or consumer identity.

For the shipment exception, reconcile original events and repeated attempts with the useful explanation delivered. Retain a delayed event and an accepted adjustment without overwriting history. A matching daily total can still conceal a wrong customer or duplicate billable item, so qualify the complete evidence and financial handoff rather than only an aggregate graph.

ShareAI: compare approved inference payment and app margin

The ShareAI Builder Program concerns an app that already exists with its own users. Eligible AI traffic routes through ShareAI, the Builder configures a permitted surcharge or margin, and the end customer pays ShareAI for that inference. App-attributed earnings follow the program. Pros: evaluate this approved payment and attribution journey for the logistics app’s eligible explanations.

ShareAI Builder preview separating estimated inference cost and illustrative app surcharge.
Actual ShareAI Builder preview captured 21 October 2026. Estimates do not establish a paid receipt, net profit, available settlement or guaranteed usage.

Tradeoffs: approval, eligible traffic, model access and account terms matter. Validated company Builders have a 45-day review period before payout. Individuals currently accumulate inference value for ShareAI use, without cash-out or account transfers. The app remains built, hosted, distributed and maintained elsewhere. Its logistics data rights, event delivery, other subscriptions, support and financial duties remain explicit responsibilities.

Providing infrastructure or a custom endpoint belongs to applicable Provider or Prosumer onboarding, separately from Builder attribution. Other gateways already address custom routes, prices and margins. Compare actual acceptance, payer, permitted price and release. The Builder Program does not establish a universal API platform, a general merchant-of-record service or automatic migration of Gravitee plans and policies.

A token allowance is not automatically a per-person spending cap

Gravitee documentation describing token limits, consumer identity and execution strategy.
Actual official Gravitee documentation captured 23 October 2026 after its native Reject control. No counter, key expression or failure strategy was changed.

The token-limit guide counts input and output together over a rolling period. Its default allowance belongs to a plan/subscription pair; a separate caller key configuration changes that scope. It also documents asynchronous counting that can overshoot during bursts and different store-failure strategies. Qualify the actual setting before promising an independent strict ceiling to every person on a shared team.

For the logistics app, preserve token consumption separately from currency. Models and providers can price the same token quantity differently. The customer’s accepted right can also be a useful explanation rather than raw tokens. Test the complete chosen admission and pricing policy instead of treating a token counter as a collected-money receipt or a guarantee of net profit.

Saved configuration, deployed policy and billing records differ

The LLM configuration reference says saving provider changes does not deploy them, and that failover across an alias only includes providers declaring that alias. A non-blocking warning can therefore matter commercially. Preserve which policy was active for the explanation instead of assuming the latest console value governed a request already in progress.

The API Products guide identifies a licensed enterprise feature with product-specific plan and policy boundaries. Its bundled product does not automatically offer every direct-proxy plan or a product-level policy flow. Qualify the selected version and actual enforcement on bundled APIs before promising a combined quota. A consumer-facing bundle and its runtime controls are connected responsibilities, not interchangeable configuration objects.

For arithmetic only, 1000 USD of inference plus a hypothetical 15% surcharge produces 150 USD gross surcharge and 1150 USD total. These synthetic amounts are not Gravitee or ShareAI fees, received earnings, net profit or a tax result. Actual platform, provider, infrastructure and billing costs, corrections and eligibility affect the business outcome.

Check arithmetic before qualifying access and financial handoff

The executed fixture below deduplicates identical activity, rejects a conflicting duplicate and records an explicit adjustment in integer USD cents. It does not deploy a policy, consume a quota, publish a financial event or collect payment. Those outcomes require actual application and commercial evidence around the calculation.

JavaScript

import assert from "node:assert/strict";
const records = [
  {id: "usage-a", customer: "demo", cents: 60000n, kind: "usage"},
  {id: "usage-b", customer: "demo", cents: 50000n, kind: "usage"},
  {id: "usage-a", customer: "demo", cents: 60000n, kind: "usage"},
  {id: "adjustment-b", customer: "demo", cents: -10000n, kind: "adjustment"}
];
function netCents(rows) {
  const seen = new Map();
  let total = 0n;
  for (const row of rows) {
    assert.equal(row.customer, "demo");
    const fingerprint = [row.customer, row.cents.toString(), row.kind].join("|");
    if (seen.has(row.id)) {
      if (seen.get(row.id) !== fingerprint) throw new Error("Conflicting duplicate");
      continue;
    }
    if (row.cents < 0n && row.kind !== "adjustment") throw new Error("Invalid sign");
    seen.set(row.id, fingerprint);
    total += row.cents;
  }
  return total;
}
const base = netCents(records);
assert.equal(base, 100000n);
assert.throws(() => netCents([...records,
  {id: "usage-a", customer: "demo", cents: 1n, kind: "usage"}
]));
const numerator = base * 1500n; // Hypothetical 15 percent in basis points.
if (numerator % 10000n !== 0n) throw new Error("Define contractual rounding first");
const surcharge = numerator / 10000n;
assert.equal(surcharge, 15000n);
const usd = cents => `${cents / 100n}.${(cents % 100n).toString().padStart(2, "0")}`;
console.log(JSON.stringify({baseUSD: usd(base), grossSurchargeUSD: usd(surcharge),
  totalUSD: usd(base + surcharge), paidReceiptVerified: false}));

Observed output is 1000 USD illustrative inference, 150 USD gross surcharge and 1150 USD total, with no verified paid receipt. Preserve trusted consumer identity, original shipment work, actual usage and accepted corrections in production. A correct sum cannot establish enforced access, a correct invoice or released app earnings.

Move one consumer product and its shared-access exception first

  • Identify actual platform version, deployment, licensed scope and billing handoff.
  • Select the API, model-access or commercial responsibility that needs to change.
  • Preserve trusted customer, subscription and logical-exception identities.
  • Rehearse shared allowance, provider-alias mismatch, deployment and correction.
  • Verify actual payment evidence without duplicate live collection.
  • Retain original records and rollback until the complete customer journey is qualified.

Keep the selected Gravitee implementation when it fits. Compare another API path for its actual consumer and policy requirements, and ShareAI for approved customer-paid inference. Begin with one shipment exception whose access, route, useful delivery and financial adjustment remain explainable to support, product and finance together.

Frequently asked questions

Which Gravitee alternatives should an AI app compare?

Tyk, WSO2, Kong and Moesif address selected API access, usage analytics and commercialization requirements. ShareAI concerns approved customer-paid inference with an app surcharge. Choose by the actual responsibility and deployment you need to change.

Does current Gravitee only manage traditional REST traffic?

No. Current product and documentation references cover APIs, events and AI model traffic, with separate product and deployment paths. Identify the selected version, licensed scope and actual protocols rather than infer every capability from an older proxy-only comparison.

Does saving an LLM provider change deploy it immediately?

The cited current configuration guide separates Save from Deploy. It also explains that an alias fails over only across providers declaring it. Qualify the active deployed configuration and actual route rather than assume the newest console value governed every request.

Is a default token allowance necessarily per person?

No. The cited token-limit guide defaults to the plan/subscription pair and documents caller-key configuration for a different scope. Shared identities, asynchronous counting and store-failure strategy matter. Qualify the actual settings before promising independent strict per-person limits.

Does a token quota equal a currency spending cap?

Not automatically. Models and providers can price token quantities differently, and the accepted customer charge may use another unit. Keep admission policy, actual model usage, accepted price and received payment separate and linked.

Do bundled API Products inherit every proxy configuration option?

The cited guide identifies an enterprise license requirement and product-specific plan and policy boundaries. Qualify supported plan types and where runtime policy is applied on the bundled APIs. A product bundle and a direct proxy are not interchangeable configuration objects.

How does ShareAI Builder settlement differ by account type?

Validated company Builders have a 45-day review period before payout. Individuals currently accumulate inference value for ShareAI use, without cash-out or account transfers. Approval, eligible traffic and account terms apply; usage and earnings are not guaranteed.

Can ShareAI replace every Gravitee product and policy?

The Builder Program concerns approved routed inference, an allowed app surcharge and attribution. The app remains hosted and maintained elsewhere. API products, data rights, event delivery and other financial duties require explicit decisions; no automatic plan, policy or wallet migration is implied.
